]]>Washing one’s hair can be tempting, especially when the weather reaches sweltering degrees. But washing hair too frequently can cause the color to fade fast. Opt for a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically for color-treated hair and keep washing it every third day.
The quality of the water coming out of the shower may not be something you think of, but your hair will be happier if you do. Mineral deposits in hard water can make your hair appear dull and your blonde streaks turn yellow. Invest in a showerhead filter and watch how your hair shines.
We all know the kind of damage that heat styling can have on our hair, but highlights can take it especially hard due to bleach being used to lighten the area. Before letting a flat-iron or curling wand touch your locks, make sure you’ve applied a thermal protectant.

]]>Most products can be incorporated into either your daytime or nighttime routine, but retinol is strictly for after dark. Exposure to the sun when wearing retinol can make your skin more susceptible to sunburn and damage, so apply this guy right before bed.
In case you haven’t already realized that retinol is a bit temperamental, here is another reminder. While other products may be applied to damp skin, retinol needs your face to be totally dry. Putting retinol on wet skin can cause irritation, so take a break for two minutes to let your skin dry fully.
Retinol is a product that should be introduced gradually into your skincare routine. Because it is so powerful, it can go the wrong way and have adverse effects if used too often. Stick to two to three times a week, alternating days, and use a pea-sized amount for your whole face.

]]>The Western world is fairly late to the syrup trend as it is popular in Korea, having originated in Japan way back in 2015. The look is for anyone who prefers a neutral type manicure, but wants to jazz it up a bit with an ombré effect. Here’s how to do it at home.
Apply a base coat to your nails and add a tip to the end in the color of your choice, as you would if you were doing a French manicure. Don’t worry if it isn’t even as it will blend out with the next few layers.
Syrup nails work best with light colors that have a sheer finish, so stick to nudes and neutrals as the gradient effect won’t be noticeable with bold hues. Once the first layer is dry, apply two to three more. The trick is to always start a little lower each time so that the color builds up by the tip, but remains sheer near the cuticle.
Once you’re happy with how it looks, apply a top coat. This should give your nails that glossy syrup effect.

]]>While you can’t go back and fix things for 4-year-old you, you can make sure that present-day you don’t have to live with hair in her eyes or an uneven fringe.
One of the biggest fears when it comes to snipping hair is that you’ll go too short. We know that hair grows back, but we’d also rather not walk around with bangs that end in the middle of our forehead. Separate your fringe from the rest of your hair using sectioning clips and then let it lie how it normally would.
Holding the hair up while cutting places tension on the hair, which will make your bangs spring up after it’s been snipped. Instead, comb underneath your bangs a few times, stopping a couple of centimeters before the edge of your hair.
If you want wispier bangs, do a “point cut” by holding a very sharp pair of scissors perpendicular to the hair. This will add texture, giving the ends a more natural look. If you prefer something a bit more dramatic, hold the scissors straight across. Use the comb as your guide and measure twice, but cut once. Rather do a bit at a time so you don’t end up with bangs that are too short.

]]>Even if the item appears completely new and sparkling clean, there are many things hiding in the fabric that the naked eye isn’t able to see.
The first reason you should put your clothes in the wash is because of a type of eczema known as contact dermatitis. Some of the harsh chemicals and dyes used on clothing can cause this, resulting in an itchy rash. A 25-minute wash on a hot cycle should remove all those extras so you can avoid any type of reaction.
Depending on what you’ve ordered, there’s also the chance that other people have tried on the garments first. Those people carry their own set of germs which then transfer onto the clothes. Studies have been done which show a host of viruses and bacteria lurking on the material.
Although the chance of getting sick from such items is fairly low, it’s still a chance not worth taking, particularly if you have sensitive skin or a compromised immune system.
So, throw your new top or pair of jeans in the wash, blast it with hot water, and you’re good to go!

]]>The fruit (yes, fruit) is 95% made up of water, making it an excellent way to keep hydrated, prevent constipation, and give your skin a glow. Cucumbers are also rich in vitamin K and antioxidants.
Depending on where you are in the world, cucumbers can be rather pricey at the supermarket. But the good thing is, they’re super easy to grow yourself.
Grab a cucumber and slice it in half vertically. Scrape out the seeds using a spoon and place them in a glass of water.
Stir the water and see which seeds sink to the bottom of the glass. If they do, that means they are viable and can be planted to create cucumber babies.
Place the good seeds on a wet paper towel and sprinkle them with cinnamon. The spice will prevent the seeds from molding and help them to sprout more quickly.
Fold the paper towel with the seeds inside and place it in a ziplock bag. Let it sit for 3 days.
Once 3 days have passed, remove the paper towel from the bag and open it. Your seeds will have begun to sprout!
Place each seedling in a pot filled with soil and lightly water them on a regular basis. You want the soil to be damp, but not drowning. A wilting plant can be a sign that it is thirsty.
The seedlings should grow into tall plants that produce around 15 cucumbers each. Grab a stick and gently tie the stalk to offer the plant support.

If you want to jump on the pearl wagon but are afraid of going all in, earrings a good place to start. You can wear a pair of statement earrings dripping in pearls, or pop in some little studs to add a little glam to your look.
Embrace the preppy vibe by using a pearl headband to complete your outfit. They look good on every hair length and texture, and have the added advantage of keeping your hair off your face and out of your eyes.
Thought pearls were reserved for jewelry? Wrong! Create the perfect brunch look by pairing a pearl-studded cardigan with jeans and sneakers; or upgrade a basic T-shirt with some pearl-embellished jeans or flats.

They say that a cluttered space is a sign of a cluttered mind. Clean out both in a methodical way. We’re not saying to tackle it all at once—just three items a day. Keep a box or bag in an accessible location and drop in 3 things. When it is full, you can donate the contents.
