At best, an itchy scalp is annoying. At worst, you may be tempted to shave off all your hair so it’s easier to scratch. Okay, that was a little dramatic… Regardless, a scalp that is itchy and flaking is not something that we’re about, so here are three methods to bring you some relief.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is not just great for your hair, it has benefits for your scalp, too. The lauric acid in the oil makes it naturally antimicrobial, enabling it to prevent dandruff. Warm the coconut oil until it becomes liquid, let it cool to room temperature, and then massage it into your scalp. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing.
Tea Tree Oil
This oil is incredibly potent, meaning it’s anti-fungal properties are exactly what’s needed when that itch gets real. Be warned, tea tree oil can aggravate the irritation if not diluted, so mix it into a handful of shampoo.
Rosewater Toner
An itchy scalp often goes along with inflammation. Calm the irritated area with rosewater that you can make yourself. Simply simmer half a cup of fresh rose petals (or a quarter cup of dried) and 2 cups of water for 15 minutes, strain it, and place in a spray bottle. Store the rosewater in the fridge to keep fresh, but don’t keep it for longer than a week.
