Been feeling a bit lethargic lately? Or maybe your hair is thinning out but you haven’t changed anything in your routine? It could be that your metabolism is on the slow side. As we age, our bodies’ natural ability to digest food becomes more sluggish, and, in turn, so do we. The effects of a slow metabolism can be seen in our skin, nails, and weight, and even result in mood swings.
Sadly, there is no turning back the clock, but there are ways to kickstart your metabolism.
Start the Day the Right Way
That first meal of the day is responsible for revving your metabolism, so don’t skip breakfast! It’s also a good idea to include some coffee as caffeine has been shown to temporary boost one’s metabolic rate.
Be in Balance
Our gut is filled with both good and bad bacteria. Having the incorrect balance can result in cravings for sugary foods and erratic blood sugar, neither of which are ideal. By adding more probiotics to your diet, it can eliminate cravings and speed up your metabolism. So have a bowl of yogurt!
Snooze or Lose
Sleep is so important to maintaining a healthy metabolism. Not getting enough shut-eye can decrease the number of calories you burn, change the way you process sugar, and disrupt your appetite-regulating hormones. Sounds like a good reason to take a nap.
