After a lot of anticipation, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association unveiled the Golden Globe nominations, but they left much to be desired. The Banshees of Inisherin deservedly led the way with eight nominations, but many beloved movies and TV shows ended up missing out.
Snub: Tom Cruise – Top Gun: Maverick
It was a pleasant surprise to see Top Gun: Maverick be nominated for the best movie – drama, but the HFPA showed no love to Tom Cruise for his amazing performance.
Snub: Yellowjackets
Despite its niche genre, Yellowjackets managed to win over Emmy voters and score seven nominations, so it’s a shocker to see it received zero nods at the Golden Globes.
Snub: Female Directors
Many female directors, such as Sarah Polley’s Women Talking and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King, gave us amazing movies this year, but the HFPA voters weren’t really paying attention.
Snub: Danielle Deadwyler – Till
Danielle Deadwyler received some major Oscar buzz for playing Emmett Till’s grieving mother Mamie in Till, but her chances are much lower now that she missed out on a Golden Globe nomination.
Surprise: Best Supporting TV Actress
The category for the best supporting television actress was missing several performers who were the beating heart of their respective shows – most notably Rhea Seehorn for Better Call Saul and Ayo Edebiri for The Bear.
