“The Devil Wears Prada” Sequel is Happening & Here’s What We Know

The Devil Wears Prada turned 18 just last month, and Disney marked the occasion by announcing they’re plotting a potential sequel. Miranda Priestly’s long-awaited comeback is finally upon us, and here’s everything we know about her next big adventure.

Plot

This sequel is still in the early stages of development, but it will reportedly see Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of the iconic Runway magazine, navigating her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. While on a hunt for advertising dollars, she reconnects with her former assistant Emily, who’s now a high-powered executive for a luxury group.

Cast

No actors have officially been cast in this sequel, but The Devil Wears Prada 2 wouldn’t make sense without Meryl Streep returning as Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt’s character is also heavily involved in the sequel and we wouldn’t be surprised if she said yes after describing this 2000s classic as the movie that changed her life. The Devil Wears Prada also starred Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, and Adrian Grenier.

Creative Team

Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the script for the first film and went on to co-create the musical rom-com Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, is in talks to return as a screenwriter. Director David Frankel, whose recent credits include films Collateral Beauty and Jerry & Marge Go Large and Netflix series Inventing Anna, is also in talks to come back.
