There’s nothing that will ruin a perfect makeup look like clumpy mascara. It happens to everyone, you’re trying to make your eyelashes look a little bit longer or thicker, so you think, “Just one more coat of mascara can’t hurt”. But when you add that extra layer, it definitely didn’t help–in fact, it just got a whole lot worse. Your mascara clumped!

Now that it’s clumped, you’re probably freaking out, so you run your mascara wand through again, trying to remove the clump, but then it just clumps even worse. Essentially you just go down a spiral of making it worse when you were just trying to make it better. You might even consider washing it all off and starting over.

Thankfully, there’s a better way! The problem with clumpy mascara is that we often try to fix it with a wand that has more product, which is why it always gets worse. So, here’s the hack: wash an old mascara wand so that it’s completely free of product and leave it to dry. Once it’s dry, you have a wand to use after you put on your mascara, but this one is only for separating the lashes! Next time you get a clump, put down the real mascara wand and take out this clean one to fix it.

With the rise of inflation and rent, it can be tough to furnish your apartment. There are many ways in which you can furnish your apartment for little to no money at all, so you don’t have to watch another Netflix show from the floor. Here are a few ways to furnish your new place cheaply.

Take a Walk

Before walking into a store, you should know what you need in the short term and what you can wait a little longer. If you live in a city, walk the streets. In big cities such as New York, London, Tel Aviv, and more, it is common to find absolute gems people have left on the street. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Facebook Marketplace

If you are constantly scrolling social media, why not make it more effective by scrolling through Facebook Marketplace? Here you can see local people selling different items, and you are bound to find something you may like, or even an item that you were about to purchase brand new, but a local neighbor is selling it for half the price. Our motto is always to check Facebook first.

Vintage Markets

Antiquing may sound expensive, but sometimes these stores and other thrift stores have trendy and cheap finds. Make sure you’re ready to haggle with the store owner for anything you may find. You can also utilize garage sales and flea markets—with a bit of help from the internet, and you can find these locations in a few minutes.

Colder weather is the perfect excuse to get cozy and gravitate toward throwing on a baggy piece. This is a great option to stay warm but layering other pieces underneath allows you to take your outfit day to night in seconds. Here are our three top ways to navigate the art of layering.

‘Winterize’ Your Summer Pieces

Just because it is cold doesn’t mean you have to put away your favorite summer dresses. By making it winter-ready, you can wear your favorite clothing all year round and get even more out of your purchase. An easy way to do this is to put a turtleneck under your dress with tights or wear your favorite summer dress with boots and a leather jacket.

Add a Statement Piece

A scarf is one of the most used accessories of winter, so why not make it exciting by choosing an oversized colorful scarf that can be draped across your neck? This keeps your neck warm and makes you stand out in the crowd.

Double the Knitwear

A turtle neck is a must-have piece for the colder weather. It is the perfect piece to wear under everything, from shirts to dresses. This season wear your turtle neck under a chunkier sweater or jacket. Imagine your turtle neck as a canvas, and build your outfit around it.

A large part of the holidays tends to focus around food. With family gatherings, customary dishes, and your Aunt Leanne insisting you have another helping, it can all result in lots and lots of eating.

The unfortunate consequence is that one can be left feeling super bloated. Although indigestion is normal after overeating, it’s far from comfortable. Here are some things you can do to help.

H20 to the Rescue

Water is definitely your friend. Hydrating will help flush out your digestive system and also prevent constipation.

Time for Tea

Another liquid which can be helpful is tea. Opt for mint tea as the herb is known for aiding digestion, or ginger tea as the root has anti-inflammatory properties which can ease bloating.

Get Some Fresh Air

Going for a walk after a big meal will promote peristalsis—the contraction of your digestive muscles. Take a light stroll and don’t do anything too hectic, as vigorous movement could leave you feeling nauseated.

Fill Up on Fiber

Make sure to increase your fiber intake the day after a large meal. Whole grains, oatmeal, chia, fruits, and veggies are all excellent sources of fiber.

One moment you’re having a delicious dinner, and the next, you spot a glob of sauce on your shirt. Your white shirt. Your favorite white shirt. Before you panic, take a breath. Conveniently place your hair to cover the stain and know that we have all the hacks for getting rid of them.

Remove the Offending Object

If the stain is something solid, remove it from the fabric using a knife as soon as you spot it. For a liquid, you want to dab with absorbent paper. Avoid spot-cleaning with hot or warm water as this can actually set the stain!

Easy Does It

It is tempting to go in aggressively and try to drown the stain, but small applications of water actually work best. Repeat as much as necessary. For any stain that is protein-based, like blood or milk, sponge off with cold water.

Water Doesn’t Always Work

Although sponging is the way to go for protein stains, avoid this method for anything oil-based as it will cause the stain to set. Rather apply methylated spirits and blot with paper towels. You can then wash the fabric with washing-up liquid.

Say No to Salt

Salt has famously been used for years to draw out a red wine stain, but it turns out that’s a myth. Flush the area with sparkling or soda water and then use a product specially designed to remove red wine stains.

The number of hair tips out there could probably rival the number of strands on our heads. In the pursuit of voluptuous volume and silky strands, we are keen to try them all. One of the latest techniques hitting social media is something you can prepare at the same time as cooking dinner.

Next time you decide to make egg-fried rice or risotto, don’t throw away the water. Rice water is a common trick used across East Asia to help hair growth. The women in the Chinese village of Huang Luo are famous worldwide for their long locks.

Their secret? Rice water. Considering rice is a staple food there, it somewhat makes sense.

Soaking rice in water and allowing it to ferment increases the amount of protein and other nutrients. These minerals and vitamins contain a plethora of benefits such as amino acids which add strength and shine, as well as a carbohydrate that repairs the strands.

So how is the hack done?

Rinse one cup of white rice and strain it to remove the excess water. Place the rice in a bowl with 250 milliliters of water and let it sit for two hours. Once it’s had time to soak, strain the rice again, but this time, save the water. Put the liquid in a glass jar, cover it with a lid, and leave it at room temperature for between 12-24 hours to ferment.

The idea is to rinse your hair with the water, concentrating on the scalp and working it down. Allow your locks to marinate for five minutes before rinsing it out. Be warned: the smell can be intense. Add some flavored oil to ease the odor.

The remaining water can then be stored in the fridge but it must be used within a week.

We love having guests in our home. But mice, not so much. If the little rodents have a tendency to invite themselves over and crash the party, here is a fix to let them know they are persona non grata and prevent them from coming back.

The best part is that the hack is all natural, so you don’t have to worry about any toxins or poisons, or who comes into contact with it. Plus, you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen.

Like many animals, mice have a strong sense of smell, so we’re going to use that to our advantage.

Grab some little organza bags and throw in one tablespoon of red pepper flakes, the same amount of whole cloves, a cinnamon stick, and some star anise. The scent of the spices will ward off the mice—and leave your home smelling lovely!

We’re not sure exactly how they do it, but mice have a knack of squeezing themselves through the tiniest of holes and into the smallest of spots. So, be sure to place the bags in cupboards, by garage doors, and any place with an opening in the foundation.

Glowing skin is more in than ever, with the world embracing “barely there” make-up. The key to the “no make-up make-up” trend is to have a good foundation and that means, well, good foundation! If you want your skin to look flawless yet natural, this is what to do.

Moisture Matters

There’s no way you’ll get a smooth coat of paint if the wall you’re working on is cracking. In short: make sure the canvas (AKA your skin) is clean and moisturized. Apply a hydrating mask that targets your specific skin type, and then gently massage in your moisturizer. Make sure to keep dry skin at bay by exfoliating 1-2 times a week.

Start at the Center

When applying your foundation, begin in the center and work your way outwards to the rest of the face. To keep it natural, apply a light layer and allow your face’s natural features, like your freckles, to shine through!

On the Bounce

There are many ways to apply foundation, from brushes to blenders and even fingers. Regardless of what tool you choose, it’s important to have the right technique. Avoid “painting on” the make-up as this can cause it to appear streaky. Instead, bounce your sponge, or buff if using a brush.
