]]>The Western world is fairly late to the syrup trend as it is popular in Korea, having originated in Japan way back in 2015. The look is for anyone who prefers a neutral type manicure, but wants to jazz it up a bit with an ombré effect. Here’s how to do it at home.
Apply a base coat to your nails and add a tip to the end in the color of your choice, as you would if you were doing a French manicure. Don’t worry if it isn’t even as it will blend out with the next few layers.
Syrup nails work best with light colors that have a sheer finish, so stick to nudes and neutrals as the gradient effect won’t be noticeable with bold hues. Once the first layer is dry, apply two to three more. The trick is to always start a little lower each time so that the color builds up by the tip, but remains sheer near the cuticle.
Once you’re happy with how it looks, apply a top coat. This should give your nails that glossy syrup effect.

]]>Keep it simple with this fresh take on a classic French manicure. The artist included a mix of cherries, berries, and citrus fruit along with a few clear rhinestones, which add a sparkly touch to a bright and colorful summer design.
As if the watermelons weren’t already mouthwatering enough, this artist added a few drops of a clear gel polish to create the illusion of condensation over this design. The result is a sparkly, textured look that captures the feeling of cutting into the first melons of the season.
We love the way this artist made use of the nails’ negative space by alternating strawberry and French manicure-inspired designs using the same colors. Together, they create a playful, yet cohesive look that’s sure to complement any summer outfit.

]]>One of the best examples of mermaidcore that we’ve seen came from the actress who plays the Little Mermaid herself, 23-year-old Halle Bailey. Bailey has been making a splash with a variety of sea-worthy looks by top fashion designers on a recent press tour, including this gown by Albanian designer Valdrin Sahiti. The dress recalls one of film’s most iconic scenes, when Ariel re-emerges from the sea as a human to be with her beloved Prince Eric.
While we may not all have access to custom designer gowns, there are plenty of little ways that we can incorporate mermaidcore into our own style. Accessorizing with shell-shaped jewelry is one option we love, especially when paired with a shimmery manicure like this.
For a costume party or just for fun, you can also play around with creating mermaid-style makeup. Use oceanic colors like greens and blues, and try adding a few faux-pearls for an undersea touch.

]]>Paint Bucket is a nail salon in New York that has now produced 10 different styles of press-on nails. Each packet comes with 24 nails, a file, glue, and adhesives. All the nails are easy to press on and will last for weeks, or until you get tired of them and want to try a different style.
Glamnetic press-on nails have tons of variety in terms of the shape and length that you want. If you like the almond shape, you can find about 20 different designs in that style. There are so many to choose from and they last a really long time.
The ManiMe nails are more stickers than press-on nails, but they last a while. They take no time to apply, and you can change them up as often as you want.

]]>One of the biggest tips for strengthening your nails is to protect them from water as much as possible. Over-exposure to moisture can cause bacteria to grow, weakening the nails. While you wash dishes or clean, you should always wear protective gloves.
Using hand lotion regularly really benefits your nail beds and cuticles. Make sure when you put the lotion on, you are really rubbing it in the nail area to get all the benefits!
There are a lot of nail polish and skincare brands that sell nail hardeners. These usually look like clear polish and they can really help strengthen your nails so they don’t break as easily.
Everyone has nervous habits; some people play with their jewelry or fidget with their clothing, but the worst of them all is easily biting or picking at your nails! If this is something you’re guilty of, it’s a good idea to figure out ways to stop. Trust us, your nails will thank you for it!

]]>When the temperature hits the lower digits, we typically opt for dark, richer colors like burgundies, browns, grays, and black. Yet J.Lo looks as though she’s chilling on a tropical island with a manicure that is ideal for spring.
A recent photo of the Shotgun Wedding actress shows her wearing a buttery yellow on her nails that perfectly complements her bright floral outfit from Carolina Herrera and hot pink lipstick. The picture was posted on the ‘gram by none of than Jennifer’s go-to nail guy, Tom Bachik.
Tom, sadly, did not name the sunshiny hue that he used for the manicure, but if you are in a yellow state of mind, these are a few polishes to try.
All Fun and Games by Essie is a creamy lemon yellow, while Sally Hansen’s You’re the Zest is a pastel shade inspired by Mentos. If you’d prefer something a little bit brighter, go for Bright and Focused from Olive & June.
Who says you can’t hold sunshine in the palm of your hand!

]]>You can’t go wrong with black nail polish and adding some silver gives them that extra pop to catch the eyes of everyone around you. The look is both fun and versatile, and will easily match every outfit.
The classic French manicure has been updated and now you can make your French tip any color on top of a nude base. These chrome French tips are becoming a favorite in most manicure salons, giving your nails some extra shine without being too overwhelming.
If you want to stand out this NYE then look no further than the rhinestone embellished manicure. They are so stunning—just need to wear a simple black dress and let your nails do the talking.
You don’t even need a manicurist for this trend—find a color you like at your local drug store, paint on three layers, and add a shiny top coat. You’ll be ready to hit the town in no time.
This is another do-it-yourself trend, with the help of nail stickers. Just paint your nails with a neutral base, leave them to dry, and then add some tiny stars and gems for a look guaranteed to make you shine all night.

]]>Rather than suggest forgoing trends entirely, we love the idea of trying out smaller, simpler options that don’t have the same potential to leave you with buyer’s remorse. Nail art is one of our favorites and this holiday season has inspired several nail art trends that we’re especially excited to try.
This trend is a fun way to pay homage to the spirit of the season without venturing being too cartoonish. The starbursts can be painted using a glitter polish for extra shine or a plain color for a more understated look.
We like to think of this trend as kind of a French Manicure 2.0. There’s still a bit of nude or pale pink space in the center, but the nail is outlined with bold colors and lines that create a fun frame.
We have a feeling Taylor Swift is responsible for this one (have you seen her new music video for Bejeweled?!) But whatever’s behind the trend, we’re not mad about it. Silver and gold designs of all kinds are all over social media, offering a fun alternative to the seasonal defaults of red and green.

]]>Velvet nails have officially replaced the glazed donut look as the hottest nail trend of 2022, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll be going away anytime soon. We love the elegance of this silver velvet mani for New Year’s Eve and beyond.
Why use gold polish when you can go for real gold? This look uses gold leaf, which can be found at most arts and craft stores, to create a bold look that’s easy to recreate at home.
Serious sparkle enthusiasts can take things to the next level by placing crystals over a base of silver polish. This artist used rectangular crystals to create the look of a disco ball, which happens to look just like the one that drops in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.

]]>When it came to her surprise wedding to Ben Affleck in July, JLo’s talons were perfectly painted in a mocha shade that was delicious enough to drink. The bombshell’s nail artist, Tom Bachik, crafted the color by combining two CND polished—Rubble and Field Fox.
“Rich mocha shades to deep chocolates just bring warmth and sophistication to any manicure,” stated the technician who is also the go-to nail artist for Selena Gomez and Olivia Rodriguez.
Bachik’s best tip for an envious fall manicure? Prepping the area.
“Nothing worse than a great color wasted on un-groomed nails,” he notes. “Focus on proper prep before ever reaching for the polish.”
Bachik is also responsible for creating Lopez’s recent creamy white manicure emblazoned with gold details. The elegant nails were decorated with hearts, studs, chains, and the word “JLo” (just in case you got confused as to whose talons they are…)
