How to Get Salon-Level Waves at Home

Those of us with wavy hair often struggle with how to style it. Sometimes we wake up to find half of it is flat while the other half is a curly mess, and it feels like we’ve got two completely different hair types. If we’ve got time, we may be able to run a straightener through it, but we’d prefer to highlight our natural waves. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to achieve that just-out-of-the-salon look at home.

Detangle in the Shower

Wash and condition your hair as normal, but before you rinse the conditioner out, run a wide-tooth comb through your hair a few times to remove all of the tangles. Comb your hair again before wrapping it in a towel.

Use the Right Products

There are plenty of products formulated to help define and smooth wavy hair on the market today, and while there are similarities, we’ve noticed that some are more up to the job than others. We especially love Briogeo’s Banana + Coconut Soft Wave Texture Spray.

Don’t Brush It

Once you’ve combed your hair and applied any product, resist the urge to brush it again so as not to ruin your waves. If your waves do start to fall, evenly apply a bit more product and use your fingers to twist your hair into 1” pieces.
