Ed Sheeran was recently spotted wearing a silver ring that many fans thought to be a wedding ring. This sparked rumors that he had secretly wed his fiancée Cherry Seaborn. Nope, not yet anyway. Ed is sporting an engagement ring which was given to him by Seaborn herself.
“I never saw why men didn’t wear engagement rings. It’s the same commitment either way,” he told British TV show, “Lorraine” on the red carpet for the Brit Awards, which were held Wednesday.
Sheeran, 27, who didn’t take home any awards despite four nominees, added that Seaborn, 25, “made it for me herself out of silver clay. I really like it.” After delivering a raw performance of “Supermarket Flowers” off of his album ÷ at the awards show, Sheeran and his bride-to-be skipped the after parties in favor of a chill dinner together at Gymkhana restaurant in London. Sheeran’s band was still snug around his finger during the outing, while Seaborn showed off her enviable rock.
The English singer announced his engagement last month, telling fans in a caption on Instagram that read, “got myself a fiancée just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.”
Although Seaborn and Sheeran have known one another since they were kids, things didn’t turn romantic until the summer of 2015, when after Ed’s close friend Taylor Swift invited Seaborn over for her annual star-studded Fourth of July bash.
“I’ve known Cherry since I was 11,” Sheeran said. “She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]. It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s Fourth of July party. I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history.”
