Do’s and Don’ts of Bridal Makeup

The big day has finally arrived! You have your dress, your bridesmaids have been briefed, and your loved ones can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle. With all eyes (and lenses) on you, it’s imperative that your makeup is impeccable. Follow these tips to ensure you look the best on the day and still love your wedding photos in 20 years’ time.

Always Book a Trial

Movies, plays, and concerts all hold rehearsals before the performance—your makeup artist should, too. Book an appointment a few weeks before the wedding to try out some looks. And just in case you have a reaction to the makeup, it’s definitely better to find out before, rather than having swollen eyes or a break-out on the big day!

Basic is Better

Following trends is tempting, but they tend to die out fairly fast, meaning you may look back on your pictures and ask yourself what the heck you were thinking. Rather opt for a classic look and avoid anything too dramatic.

Less Isn’t Always More

Even if you’re not a big makeup person, it’s good to remember that certain looks show up better in photos than others. Most makeup artists are well-versed in applying makeup that can last the duration of the day and look gorgeous both on- and off-camera, so go with them if they suggest something stronger than a tinted moisturizer.

Everyone Has an Opinion

Ever heard the saying, “too many cooks spoil the broth”? Getting opinions from too many people about what look you should go for can lead to confusion and uncertainty. Instead, keep your consulting crew small—and always go with your gut.
