Buddy comedies are one of those beloved film genres that are never going out of style. They usually follow a tested formula, but it’s always fun to see a movie that puts a twist on familiar tropes. Quite a few buddy comedies premiered on Netflix this summer and here are three that will make you see this genre in a whole new light.
Me Time
Out of all the movies on this list, Me Time is the only one that plays it by buddy comedy rules. It stars Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg as a stay-at-home dad and partying single guy reuniting after losing touch to enjoy a wild weekend together.
Day Shift
Vampire-themed buddy comedy isn’t something you see too often, but Day Shift perfectly fits this description. Jamie Foxx plays a hard-working, blue-collar dad who has a side hustle as a vampire hunter, and his dynamic with Dave Franco is one of the film’s strongest suits.
Do Revenge
If you’re looking for a female-driven buddy comedy, Do Revenge is coming to Netflix in mid-September and you should put it on your watch list ASAP. This darkly comedic teen drama stars Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke as two girls who join forces to take down each other’s bullies.
