Adaptations of classic novels are never going out of style, and Hollywood can’t get enough of them these days. Some of our favorite gothic books are getting brand-new adaptations, and here are three that everyone’s buzzing about.
Wuthering Heights
Emerald Fennell announced that she’s working on the new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights earlier this year, and this project is finally taking shape. It will be one star-studded affair, with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi on board to play the leading duo, Catherine and Heathcliff.
Frankenstein
Speaking of Jacob Elordi, Wuthering Heights isn’t the only highly-anticipated adaptation he has on the way. He’ll also play Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s version of Mary Shelley’s classic tale, opposite Oscar Isaac as the mad genius Victor Frankenstein. This project wrapped up production in July, and it will be released by Netflix sometime next year.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Netflix is also getting ready to put a modern twist on The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Katie Rose Rogers developed a modern-day adaptation The Grays for the streaming giant, which will be set against the backdrop of the beauty industry and revolve around siblings Basil and Doran Gray.
