3 Things You Need To Know About Sunscreen (For Real)

It’s finally here people – Beach season. After a really long winter (or was it just for us?), we can finally get our bathing suits out and really enjoy the waves, the sand, and the glorious sun. Although it’s pretty much all around fun at the beach, if you want to keep your skin care regiment running smoothly through the summer, there are 3 things you need to know:

1. Always use Sunscreen. Always.

Forget about the whole “Can you put lotion on my back” trick to draw in your latest beach crush, this is really a crucial thing to do.

Prolonged sun exposure can really damage your skin, your health, and yes – your mood.

Before you go all “But there’s sunscreen in my makeup”, thats not enough. What you need is a real sunscreen. The best option in to use a sunscreen moisturiser directly on the skin, only then you can apply your foundation makeup (with it’s built-in sunscreen).

2. Read the label. Really.

When buying your sunscreen, always make sure it’s broad spectrum- meaning it protects you from UVB (burn ray),  AND UVA (aging ray- preach!). If you wanna go the extra mile, make sure your sunscreen has two important ingredients: Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. These two are your new best friends (forget Tina from accounting).

3. You put sunscreen at home, not at the beach.

Yes we know, what’s the point? Well, in this case, the point is keeping you healthy and fabulous for more years to come! If you don’t put sunscreen at home, you’re exposing your skin to burns (even if it’s only for a few minutes).

There’s a bright side to this too- You need to reapply it every two hours, so that cute guy can still come in handy.
