Another Halloween is behind us, and our Hollywood superstars did a better job than ever getting dressed up for the spooky season. Our favorite celebs were truly on top of their game and gave us chills with their amazing costume choices.

The most popular Halloween costume theme we were seeing everywhere this season was pretty easy to predict—popular culture. The majority of celebrity costumes that caught our eye this year were inspired by movies and TV shows we all know and love, both new and old.

Some stars decided to stick to Halloween classics that we all tend to rewatch comes Halloween, such as Corpse Bride and Hocus Pocus. Others dug a little bit deeper, most notably Kylie Jenner, who gave us two horror-inspired looks, as the titular characters from Bride of Frankenstein and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.

The list of films that inspired celebrity costumes this year included everything from Toy Story and Avatar to Black Swan and The Fifth Element. Some references were pretty obscure, such as Ariana Grande’s and Elizabeth Gillies’s costumes inspired by the underrated comedy Best in Show. We’ve also noticed several costumes paying homage to cartoons and other celebrities.
