Wax On: How to Make Your Own Wax at Home

No matter where it is, unwanted hair is, well, unwanted. Waxing is a better method for removal than shaving as it pulls out the hair from the root and allows it to grow back finer, but it is not always easy to head to the beauty salon. Here are two kinds of wax that you can make at home, so you can attack those follicles in your own time.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

Anyone who has made caramel before will be familiar with the process of caramelizing of sugar, and that’s basically what this wax is. Simply combine 2 cups of white sugar, ¼ cup of lemon juice, and ¼ cup of water in a saucepan and cook it on medium-heat until the sugar dissolves and turns golden brown. Stir it occasionally to prevent it from burning, and remove it from the heat once it has a consistency like honey.

Stick With Me, Honey

Instead of sugar, this wax uses honey for the caramelizing process. Mix 1 cup of honey with ¼ cup of lemon juice and ¼ cup of water in a saucepan. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat while stirring occasionally. Let it cook for about 15-20 minutes until it thickens up, then remove it from the heat and let it cool down.
