Staring at the wall, watching the hours tick by as you beg sleep to take you, is incredibly frustrating. Some people manage to fall asleep as soon as their head hits the pillow, but for others, entering dreamland is a full-on struggle.
If you’re part of the latter group, this military hack may be the thing you’ve been waiting for. As army personnel have to be fully functional on not much sleep, they have learned a trick to fall asleep fast. We’re talking “two minutes” fast. This is how you do it.
Get comfortable. Nothing makes reaching slumber more complicated than being in an uncomfortable position. Picture yourself lying in a canoe on still water, or gently rocking in a hammock.
Turn your attention to your breath. You want to slowly relax your body, starting with your forehead and face. Release all tension as you work your way down through each body part.
Start imagining a warm sensation traveling through your body; from the top of your head, into your chest, down your arms, and all the way to your fingertips.
Take a deep breath, focusing on your chest. Allow the warmth to make its way down into your stomach, thighs, legs, feet, and toes. Should your mind wander, repeat the phrase “don’t think” for 10 seconds.
