Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Owes Her Makeup Hacks to Her Grandma

When it comes to makeup and skincare, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is about efficiency.

The 20-year-old actress stars in Never Have I Ever where she plays a teenager trying to navigate high school, boys, and her very Indian mother.

In real life, Maitreyi says her mom took very good care of the actress’s skin which has paid off.

“When I’m working I feel like I’m more strict and diligent with myself and my skin,” she told *Vogue* while applying a lipid serum from Epicurus. “When I’m not working I tend to make excuses and say it’s okay—just use a face wipe.”

As far as makeup is concerned, Maitreyi knows the struggle of many women with darker skin tones. “It’s always so hard to color match as a woman of color,” she remarks. “I am very cognizant of the fact that I have the privilege of makeup artists who really helped me find my match.”

Her solution? “I’m actually gonna use two different foundations.”

Someone else who helped the Canadian with her makeup routine is her grandma. “My grandma’s a baddie. She taught me how to do my eyebrows and the importance of doing your top eyeliner, not just your bottom waterline.”

Taking on her grandmother’s advice, Maitreyi uses Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil as eyeliner, skipping the centre. “If you do the full way, that’s a little much and it like closes of your eyes when you want your eyes to be big and bright.” She completes her eyes by adding a wing with NYX’s Epic Ink Liner.

A little Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer & Plumper finishes off the look, and Maitreyi is red carpet ready.
