DIY Hair Cutting Tutorial for Girls With Curls

Shout out to the girls with curly hair! Those who know, know how difficult it can be to have hair that comes out differently every time you wash it. Cutting curly hair is also a very delicate process that should be left to the professionals, but in instances where you really need a cut and can’t get to the salon, here is a tutorial on how to do it yourself.

Step #1

Wash or wet your hair, and comb it forward over your face while still damp.

Step #2

Using an elastic, tie your hair into a ponytail at the beginning of your hairline at the front of your head.

Step #3

Take the ponytail between your fingers and snip off the ends using a very sharp pair of scissors. Cut just a little bit for a trim, or more if you want to go shorter. Just remember: you can always cut more, but you can’t go back once it’s cut, so start small.

Step #4

Once that is done, you want to tie your hair in a ponytail by your forehead once again. This time, however, leave out a section of hair at the back.

Step #5

Trim the ends of the new ponytail to create layers. Tie a new ponytail of only the front section and trim. For length purposes, bear in mind that your hair is longer when wet.

Step #6

When you’re done, release your hair and part it in the center to see the layers. Then, style it as normal.
