The middle seat is every traveler’s worst nightmare and there comes a time for all of us when we can’t avoid it. If it’s too late to switch your seat or you don’t want to pay extra to sit elsewhere, here are some tips and tricks that will help you survive flying in the middle seat.
Claim the Armrests
Everyone knows that the middle seat is the most uncomfortable and letting the passenger who sits there use the armrests is pretty much an unwritten rule, so feel free to claim them.
Come Prepared
You already know that traveling in the middle seat won’t be super-comfy, but nothing is stopping you to make it better. Pack a neck pillow, a lightweight blanket, and noise-canceling headphones, and try to enjoy the ride.
More Legroom
You can also make the flight in the middle seat more comfortable by traveling light. Store your luggage in the overhead compartment and keep the leg area empty so you can stretch if needed.
Switching Your Seat
After all the passengers boarded the plane, you can always ask one of the flight attendants if there are any free seats available where you could move for extra comfort. If you decide to go down this road, act fast because other passengers in the middle seat will be asking the same question.
