Avoid Buying These Plants if You Have Pets

House plants are such a great way to liven up any home, no matter the size. They bring natural light and color into the space, so it’s understandable why people love them! If you have pets, though, you have to be careful of which houseplants you buy. Some plants can be poisonous for animals, so stay away from these plants if you have furry friends in your home.

Elephant Ear

Elephant Ear plants are gorgeous, but if you have dogs or cats at home, it’s better to skip this one. This plant is highly toxic to cats and dogs.

Pothos Plant

Similar to Elephant Ear plants, Pothos is highly toxic to cats and dogs. It can cause severe irritation in the throat and mouth, and can even cause vomiting.

Aloe Vera

Despite being a natural healer for humans, aloe vera is extremely toxic for dogs (and young children). If ingested, dogs may have diarrhea, vomiting, and other unpleasant symptoms. If you want aloe vera for the healing properties, it’s probably best to get it from a bottle if you have a dog.

Ivy Plants

Ivy plants are another one to avoid if you have pets at home. Although it’s not as severe as some other plants, ivy can cause irritation in cats and dogs.
