Ashley Wagner, a silver medalist who competed in the 2016 Winter Olympics for Women’s figure skating didn’t quite make the cut this year. Wagner’s scores during the U.S Figure Skating Championship put her in the position of 4th place, just shy of making the olympic team to represent the United States in this year’s games.
Not only is she disappointed in the outcome of the U.S Figure Skating Championship, but she is “absolutely furious” and believes that the judges did not judge her quite fairly. Wagner stated, “I’m furious, I am absolutely furious. I know when I go and I lay to down and I absolutely left one jump on the table, but for me to put out two programs that I did at this competition as solid as I skated and to get those scores, I am furious, and I think deservedly so.”
Wagner is a proud and talented athlete, so it makes sense that she is disappointed that she didn’t make the cut. After expressing herself directly after the competition, she tweeted the following statement on Saturday morning in regards to the end result: “As an athlete, I’m allowed to be mad. As a senior competitor with over 10 years of experience, I’m allowed to question things. At the end of the day, I laid out my best and I’m going home proud! Congrats to the lovely ladies of the team, you’ve got me in your cheering squad now! Lastly Twitter, before you eat me alive, don’t forget there is a real person on the other end of your tweets.”
