They say that the eyes are the window to the soul, and for this reason, many people choose to emphasize their eyes through makeup including eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara. While these can all help to draw attention to the natural beauty of your eyes, unfortunately, these products (and the products and techniques we use to remove them) can lead to sensitive, sore eyes. If you’re struggling with this common problem, check out these tips on how to soothe your eyes and restore them to health.
Eye Makeup Remover
If you’re wearing makeup, you need to make sure that your method for removing it is as gentle as possible. Choose a high-quality micellar water designed for sensitive skin and eyes, and soak a cotton pad in this before patting this over your eye. Don’t forget to use q-tips to gently ease off any residue once you’ve used the cotton pad—and avoid harsh rubbing and scrubbing at all costs.
Eye Drops
Sometimes the area around your eyes and your eyes themselves are feeling sore and sensitive due to a lack of moisture. Try using some soothing eye drops each morning, to see if this makes a difference. Some eye drops can also tackle seasonal allergies, so it may be worth investigating whether this could be one of the causes of your sore eyes.
Clean Your Tools
Eyeshadow brush with yesterday’s product being used to apply today’s makeup? Mascara wand that hasn’t been changed for several months? When it comes to cleaning and refreshing our makeup products, we can all be guilty of forgetting to do this on a regular enough basis. However, if your eyes are reacting by getting sore, red and itchy, this is a clear sign that your brushes and products need an overhaul. Get out that brush cleanser and chuck out any eye makeup that’s more than six months old.
