This year’s MTV VMAs brought many amazing red carpet trends our way, and some of our favorite stars chose to take a walk down memory lane. Fashion throwbacks and tributes were all the rage at this ceremony, and these five looks are a true blast from the past.
Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina Carpenter was among the best dressed stars at this year’s MTV VMAs, but her vintage Bob Mackie gown has previously been worn by none other than Madonna at the Oscars over 30 years ago.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift’s black and yellow plaid Dior corset dress was a clear reference to her album Reputation, but rom-com fans were quick to notice it also resembles Cher Horowitz’s iconic yellow suit from Clueless.
Tate McRae
Tate McRae set the stage for her new single “It’s Ok, I’m Ok” by paying homage to one of her biggest idols – Britney Spears. Her sheer Roberto Cavalli black mini-dress was inspired by Spears’ 2001 VMAs look.
Halsey
Halsey’s new album The Great Impersonator will see her revisiting many different eras, and she took us straight to the 90s with a scarlet leopard gown, designed by Gianni Versace for Elizabeth Hurley.
Paris Hilton
While other stars used their VMAs looks to pay homage to others, Paris Hilton decided to celebrate herself. Her silver Celia Kritharioti Couture dress was a clear nod to her iconic 21st birthday dress.
