]]>The sun emits harmful ultraviolet rays that can damage the skin and cause sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. Up to 90% of UV rays are able to pass through clouds, so wearing sunscreen helps to protect the skin from any damage they may cause.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer is the most common cancer among adults in the United States. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and rates are continuing to rise. While most cases occur in individuals over 50, it’s important to start using sunscreen for protection and prevention as early as possible.
As well as reducing the risk of skin cancer, wearing sunscreen can also help to keep skin looking healthy and youthful by providing moisture.
If you’re staying in the house all day, you’re probably fine to go without, but otherwise, the risks of not wearing sunscreen far outweigh any potential benefits of skipping it. When choosing a sunscreen, look for one with broad-spectrum protection and an SPF of at least 30. Reapply every two hours if you’re swimming or spending time outdoors—your skin will thank you for it!

]]>While this is a great step, many people forget to bring sunscreen down their necks! Bringing your sunscreen down to your neck is crucial to prevent skin cancer and reduce signs of aging. Often, our necks are one of the first places people show signs of aging, so make sure you’re protecting that skin!
One picture, in particular, went viral because it showed the effects of skipping the neck SPF. A woman put SPF on her face for 40+ years, but neglected her neck–and it shows! There are clear signs of aging on her neck, and it’s far more than the skin on her face. This just proves how important it is to protect your skin (and not just your face) from the harsh UV rays.

]]>Part of what makes the “Let’s Get Loud” singer appear so youthful is a good skincare routine. As she shared with Vogue, Jen doesn’t douse herself in expensive creams and cleansers. But the women in her life growing up did apply olive oil to their faces.
“I’ve always had a very simple skincare routine,” the 53-year-old said. “JLo Beauty is very much about that. I always just was like, cleanser, a little bit of a cream, sunscreen — very basic.”
Jen believes in it so much that she created a daily moisturizer that included SPF, referring to sunscreen as a game-changer when it comes to staying youthful.
Another tip? Getting enough shut eye.
“One of my biggest beauty secrets is sleep. There’s a certain amount of hours before your face falls asleep and so it’s either under four or over seven — that’s my rule.”
As for make-up, JLo achieves her glow by first applying concealer and contour, and then going over everything with two shades of Chanel Vitalumiere. She then lines her lips with a Make Up For Ever pencil before applying Fenty Beauty’s Universal Lip Luminizers in a peachy shade with a dab of a light pink in the center.
