]]>Here are a few of the life lessons to be learned from The Artist’s Way.
‘Morning Pages’ are three pages of hand-written stream-of-consciousness writing,
that you should do as soon as you wake up every day. This kind of free-form journaling is designed to free your mind and help you be your most creative self.
Another tenet of the book is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. This is to take time out of your schedule to nourish your creative self. The dates should be solo and could be visiting a gallery or museum, going to an art supply store, or spending some time outside with your sketchbook.
Everyone has an inner critic that tells us we aren’t good enough. Julia Cameron advises us to visualize and name our inner critic. That way, we separate the critic from ourselves and acknowledge its presence, reducing its power over us. Cameron calls her inner critic Nigel and imagines him as a posh British man!

]]>Most of us reach for our phones as soon as we open our eyes. From then on, we are bombarded by emails, news alerts, and other notifications. So, before you enter the madness, take a minute to check in with yourself. Put your hands on your heart and listen to your inner voice.
They say that a cluttered space is a sign of a cluttered mind. Clean out both in a methodical way. Weβre not saying to tackle it all at onceβjust three items a day. Keep a box or bag in an accessible location and drop in 3 things. When it is full, you can donate the contents.Β
So often we tell ourselves that we only deserve nice things if we have completed or accomplished something. No, you deserve to be kind and treat yourself. Allow yourself one small pleasure a day, whether it be coffee in bed, chatting with a friend, or listening to your favorite music.

]]>Instead of tackling everything at once, take a moment to identify the most important tasks. Focus your energy on completing those first. By prioritizing, you’ll ensure that your efforts are aligned with your goals and deliver the greatest impact.
Large projects can often be overwhelming. Break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. This will make them less daunting and allow you to tackle them more efficiently. Celebrate your progress as you complete each step, boosting your motivation and momentum.
Avoid multitasking and instead, give your full attention to one task at a time. This approach allows you to concentrate deeply, achieve higher-quality results, and complete tasks more quickly. Practice mindfulness and eliminate distractions to maximize your focus.
If you concentrate on doing these three things, you’ll find yourself getting your work done more efficiently. But the best is that you’ll feel less stressed as well! Good luck!

]]>Habit Tracking is way of creating a system where you set out the habits you’d like to introduce into your life. They’re small, easily achievable and shouldn’t last more than a few minutes. You sandwich these habits into your existing daily routine so that it’s easier to remember to do them.
Make a grid. In the vertical, left-hand column, list the habits you want to stick to. In the highest row, mark the days of the week. Each time you perform a habit, you make a tick or shade in the square.
Your habits could be things like stretching, meditation, reading 1 page of a book, flossing your teeth, walking the dog or calling your mom.
Habit trackers tend to be successful for three reasons.

]]>It’s really hard but it makes a huge difference! Going outside even for 30 minutes, enjoying the limited daylight hours and getting some exercise is a fantastic way to boost your mood in the depths of winter. Remember to wrap up warm!
It can be hard to stick to a routine when it goes dark at 4pm and the nights feel like they’re stretching on forever. Turn off your phone or that binge-able Netflix series and try to go to bed before 11pm. Investing in a sunrise/sunset alarm clock can be a great way to support your circadian rhythm if you suffer with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
Being cold is the pits! Warm sweaters, hot water bottles, cozy socks and plenty of hot tea are essential for keeping cozy and content.
January can feel like a dead time. The holidays are over and the winter is dragging on. Learning a new skill or hobby, picking up a new book, or signing up for a new class can give you a sense of hope and renewal.
If you’re feeling down, that’s okay. Winter is HARD! Be kind to yourself and let yourself hibernate a littleβyou’re not alone!

]]>Invented by New York Times illustrator, Julia Rothman, the More/Less list is a more gentle and positive way to map out your vision of what you want your life to look like in the coming year.
It’s simple. Take a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle and write the two headings ‘More’ and ‘Less’. Then think hard about realistic ways you could improve your life. Your ‘More’ section can be things you’re already doing that you’d like to do even more!
You may want to draw little pictures of each item on the list to act as a visual reminder when you glance at your list. Stick it up somewhere you’ll see it regularly, like above your desk.
Traditional New Year’s Resolutions like ‘lose weight’ or ‘get fit’ are very easy to commit to but very hard to stick to.
The More/Less format, on the other hand, is a more holistic vision of your life with positive, simple and actionable points to work from. Instead of ‘get fit’, you can put ‘yoga’ and ‘walking’ in your More list.
It’s also more easy-going and flexible, with more space for you to work towards goals without the fear of failure!
