Remember that photo of yourself from your 4th birthday party? The one where you have skew bangs because your mom realized the night before that they were too long and went in with the scissors? That trauma has lived with you ever since.

While you can’t go back and fix things for 4-year-old you, you can make sure that present-day you don’t have to live with hair in her eyes or an uneven fringe.

Step #1

One of the biggest fears when it comes to snipping hair is that you’ll go too short. We know that hair grows back, but we’d also rather not walk around with bangs that end in the middle of our forehead. Separate your fringe from the rest of your hair using sectioning clips and then let it lie how it normally would.

Step #2

Holding the hair up while cutting places tension on the hair, which will make your bangs spring up after it’s been snipped. Instead, comb underneath your bangs a few times, stopping a couple of centimeters before the edge of your hair.

Step #3

If you want wispier bangs, do a “point cut” by holding a very sharp pair of scissors perpendicular to the hair. This will add texture, giving the ends a more natural look. If you prefer something a bit more dramatic, hold the scissors straight across. Use the comb as your guide and measure twice, but cut once. Rather do a bit at a time so you don’t end up with bangs that are too short.

Girls with bangs, this one is for you! There are many, many hacks found on social media that should not be tried (we’re looking at you, lube primer), but this one might just be genius.

As anyone who has ever cut a fringe knows, having one is a commitment. It requires frequent trimming, often needs to be styled, and can be totally annoying when it doesn’t do what you want it to.

On windy days, bangs definitely find themselves in the last category. A strong gust will blow your hair right off your face and leave the strands standing at the most bizarre angles. The chances of this happening are higher, depending on how wispy your fringe is.

However, there is a new method that can help you defy the elements: eyelash glue.

Before raising an eyebrow so high that it disappears under that hair, hear us out. Applying a bit of eyelash glue to the tips of your bangs to keep them in place is actually a trick that has been used on the red carpet for years.

So how is it done?

First, make sure you’re using clear glue to disguise what you’re doing. The last thing you want is for someone to ask what is that black mark on your face.

Apply a very little amount to the strands using the applicator brush and gently press the hair to your forehead. Pressing too hard will result in a much more difficult removal that could end up damaging your locks.

It is also important to remove all traces of glue from the hair as it can harden and become super hard to wash out.

You and your bangs are now ready to face the elements. Bring it on!

Bangs are a commitment. They always seem like a good idea at the time, but chances are you had just ended things with your ex and wanted a massive change. For the lucky ones, this works out. But for the rest of us, it means wanting to wear a hat until they grow out. If you’ve decided that bangs are what you need in life right now, there are two options on trend for 2023.

Micro Bangs

A little bit edgy, a little bit rock and roll, that’s how we’d describe the micro bang. As the name suggests, these bangs are shorter than the average, and typically stop around the middle of the forehead or just above the eyebrows. Zendaya, Emma Roberts, and Halle Berry have all rocked the look, with Florence Pugh most recently wearing them to the 2023 BAFTA Awards.

Peekaboo Bangs

If you’re after a more low-maintenance look, peekaboo bangs may be the ones for you. Choppy and layered, these bangs allow some of your forehead to show through. And best of all, if you decide you’re over them, you can just sweep them out of the way. Ask your stylist for them to be textured and light enough to easily push away.

Sometimes a dramatic haircut is just necessary. Whether you’ve been living with long hair for a while or you are a short-haired girl at heart, a style refresh is important. The first two months after getting your hair cut are the best—you feel confident and stylish. A few months later, however, you’re back to being stuck in a hair rut. Here are four short hairstyles options to help you to feel invigorated and excited again.

A Layered Bob

If you love body and volume for your hair, then this style is for youPut a little bit of mousse through your locks and blow dry with a large bristle brush, to get this low-maintenance look.

The Piecey Pixie

If you like the shorter, disheveled look, then this piecey pixie is for you. You will want to ask your stylist to go shorter at the back and leave the top longer.

Angular Bob With Bangs

Adding bangs to a classic bob is a great way to spice up a tired look, and you can also add some angles to the bob to make it even more interesting. When styling it, you want to make sure you use a hair straightener and add some shine spray for a beautiful finish.

Messy Bob

This style is full of texture and frames the face so beautifully. You can keep it refined or mess it up with some waves, depending on your mood. When drying it, make sure to give it some volume by blow-drying upside down and using a medium round bristle brush on the top sections. You can also use a curling tong to give it more shape.
