If you’re yearning for long, shiny hair that turns heads wherever you go, it’s time to raid your kitchen and unleash the power of avocados. This green goddess fruit isn’t just for guacamole – it also works wonders when it comes to nourishing and revitalizing your hair. Get ready to embark on a hair transformation journey with this homemade avocado hair mask recipe that will leave your locks looking and feeling fabulous.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oil (such as lavender or rosemary) for a delightful scent

Instructions:

  1. Start by scooping out the flesh of a ripe avocado into a bowl. Ensure it’s nice and ripe to make mashing easier.
  2. Add the extra-virgin olive oil to the bowl. This rich oil will deeply hydrate your hair, promoting shine and smoothness.
  3. Drizzle in the honey, which acts as a natural humectant, locking in moisture and enhancing the overall health of your hair.
  4. Now, it’s time to get mashing! Use a fork or a blender to combine the ingredients into a smooth, creamy consistency. Make sure there are no lumps left behind.
  5. If desired, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for an aromatic touch. Lavender or rosemary not only smell divine but also offer additional benefits for your hair and scalp.
  6. With your avocado hair mask ready, it’s time to apply it to your tresses. Start by dampening your hair, ensuring it’s not soaking wet. This will help the mask spread evenly.
  7. Section your hair and apply the avocado mask from the roots to the ends, making sure to saturate each strand. Massage it gently into your scalp to stimulate blood circulation and promote healthy hair growth.
  8. Once your hair is fully coated, gather it into a bun and cover it with a shower cap or wrap it in a towel. This will create a warm environment, allowing the nutrients to penetrate deeply into your hair follicles.
  9. Let the avocado hair mask work its magic for about 30 minutes to an hour. You can use this time to relax, read a book, or pamper yourself in other ways.
  10. Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. You might need to shampoo twice to remove any residue, as avocados can be quite rich.
  11. Revel in the beauty of your revitalized hair. Notice how it looks shinier, feels softer, and exudes a natural luster.

You will never see us passing up the opportunity to have avocado toast. As a source of good fats and vitamins, avocados are healthy as well as delicious. But perhaps the healthiest part of the avo is what gets left behind. The dark green peel of an avocado is loaded with antioxidants and can help with inflammation. It is also excellent for our skin.

After scooping out the creamy flesh, don’t discard the avocado skin. Instead, use it to make a face mask that will leave your skin feeling as smooth as that avo flesh.

Cut the fruit in half and scrape out as much of the green stuff as you can. Then, place the peel in a 300°F oven for 10 minutes until it dries out and shrivels up slightly. If you have the time, let the peel dry out in the sun as this will give it an extra dose of vitamins.

You now want to put the skin into a food processor (a coffee grinder works too) and whiz it up until a fine powder forms. Run it through a sieve to separate the larger bits, and add the remaining powder to 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt. Add in 1 teaspoon of raw honey and mix it all together.

The runny mixture is filled with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Use a paintbrush to apply it to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

Your skin will thank you.

You’ve seen them do toast, and you’ve seen them do guacamole–but have you tried avocados in smoothies? It may sound a bit strange, but trust us, you’ve got to start adding avocados to your smoothies. You can add them to your fruit or vegetable smoothies, and it’s a great way to use up your avocados that are about to go bad. There are so many benefits (both health-wise and taste-wise) to adding avocados to your smoothies, and here are just a few of them!

Adds Creaminess

If you’re looking for a milk substitute to make your smoothies perfectly creamy, avocados are perfect! One reason for adding avocados is to create a creamy texture without thinning out the smoothie with too much liquid. It also won’t change the flavor of your smoothie, since the taste is so mild.

Adds Healthy Fats and Fiber

Avocados are known for being one of the best healthy fats out there. It has tons of nutrients, like key vitamins and minerals. It’s also loaded with Omega-3’s, which are imperative to brain and heart health. Avocados are even helpful for your gut health and digestion. This is because they have fiber, which helps to keep the digestive system flowing properly.

No food has defined a generation quite like avocados have for millennials. The meme developed after an Australian millionaire claimed that he was able to afford a house because he refrained from buying avocado toast. Well, the housing market is still rough, but avos are currently at their most affordable, so here are some other tasty ways to use the green fruit.

Avocado Fries

French fries are so passé! Swap out your potatoes for some avocados, coat them in crunchy crumbs, and stick them in the oven or an air fryer. Hey, presto—delicious fries with zero guilt!

Avocado Brownies

A good brownie needs to be moist and fudgy when you bite into it. The best way to achieve that texture is to sneak an avocado into your batter! The avo won’t actually affect the taste of your baked good, but its impact will be felt every time someone remarks how wonderfully gooey your brownies are.

Avocado Pasta

Avocados’ creamy texture is what makes them a natural go-to when creating a velvety pasta sauce. Throw in some extra greens like spinach and basil, a bit of cream (or coconut milk), toppings of your choice, and you have yourself the ultimate pasta dish.
