]]> Have a set of silverware passed down from your great-grandmother? Or an antique pair that you picked up at a second-hand store? Cutlery can be priceless or really inexpensive, but you won’t be able to tell the difference if you follow these tips to take care of them. 

Hand Wash

While it might be tempting to toss your cutlery in the dishwasher, hand washing is far gentler on your silverware and can help prevent scratches and tarnishing. Avoid any abrasive cleaners and opt for gentle cloths instead.

Dry Them Well

After washing your silverware, make sure to dry them off thoroughly with a soft cloth. Water spots can be a real pain to get rid of, so it’s best to avoid them altogether. Once dry, store your silverware in a cool place without humidity, AKA not near the sink.

Break Out the Polish 

If your cutlery is starting to look a bit dull, give them a good rub with a silver polish and a soft cloth. Believe it or not, using your silverware regularly can actually help prevent tarnishing. So don’t be afraid to break out the fancy forks and knives for everyday use!
