]]>Here are a few of the life lessons to be learned from The Artist’s Way.
‘Morning Pages’ are three pages of hand-written stream-of-consciousness writing,
that you should do as soon as you wake up every day. This kind of free-form journaling is designed to free your mind and help you be your most creative self.
Another tenet of the book is to take yourself on a weekly artist date. This is to take time out of your schedule to nourish your creative self. The dates should be solo and could be visiting a gallery or museum, going to an art supply store, or spending some time outside with your sketchbook.
Everyone has an inner critic that tells us we aren’t good enough. Julia Cameron advises us to visualize and name our inner critic. That way, we separate the critic from ourselves and acknowledge its presence, reducing its power over us. Cameron calls her inner critic Nigel and imagines him as a posh British man!

]]>Before you begin the process of assembling your vision boards, take some time to reflect on your goals and aspirations. Define what you want to achieve in different areas of your life, such as career, relationships, or health, and write down your intentions in specific, present-tense statements. This clarity will guide your image selection and enhance the power of your vision board.
Assemble a collection of images, quotes, and affirmations that resonate with the intentions you’ve set. Browse through magazines or use online platforms like Pinterest for inspiration, choosing visuals that evoke positive emotions and align with your values. Words should be empowering and motivating, capturing the essence of your desired outcomes. The more meaningful and personalized the content, the stronger the connection with your vision.
Designing an aesthetically pleasing vision board enhances its impact, as you’ll be inspired to look at what you’ve created more often. Choose a board that suits your style and living space, and arrange your words and images in a way that is visually appealing to you. You can organize them thematically, chronologically, or go by your intuition. Once you’ve finished, display your vision board in a prominent place where you will see it daily to reinforce your intentions and keep your focus sharp.

]]>The post Having a Bad Day? Here are Simple Reminders to Help You Feel Better appeared first on LUX & LUSH.
]]>Remember that a bad day is just a temporary moment in the grand scheme of things. Remind yourself that tomorrow is a fresh start, and the challenges you face today will soon be behind you.
Be kind to yourself and practice self-compassion. Treat yourself with the same love and understanding you would offer to a close friend. Give yourself permission to acknowledge and process your emotions without judgment.
Shift your perspective by focusing on the things you’re grateful for. Take a moment to appreciate the small joys in your life, whether it’s a warm cup of coffee, a supportive friend, or a beautiful sunset. Gratitude can help shift your mindset and bring positivity into your day.
Sometimes, a change of scenery can work wonders for your mood. Take a short break and engage in activities that bring you joy. Whether it’s going for a walk, listening to uplifting music, or indulging in a favorite hobby, a little break can recharge your energy and help you regain perspective.
Connect with someone who brings positivity and support into your life. Share your feelings and experiences, and allow yourself to be vulnerable. Talking to a loved one can provide comfort, advice, and a fresh perspective on your situation.
Bring your focus to the present moment and practice mindfulness. Engage in activities that help you ground yourself, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, or simply being fully present in the task at hand. Mindfulness can help calm your mind and release tension.
Laughter is truly the best medicine. Watch a funny video, read a humorous book, or engage in activities that make you laugh. Laughter releases endorphins, boosts your mood, and helps you see things from a lighter perspective.
Remind yourself of your strengths, capabilities, and worth. Repeat positive affirmations that uplift and motivate you. Encourage yourself with kind and empowering words that can shift your mindset and boost your confidence.
Take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Engage in activities that nurture your well-being, such as taking a relaxing bath, practicing yoga, or treating yourself to a favorite treat. Prioritizing self-care can help you recharge and replenish your energy.
Remember that nobody is perfect, and it’s okay to have bad days. Embrace the imperfections and allow yourself to learn and grow from challenging experiences. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and trust that they are opportunities for growth and self-improvement.
Finally, remember that tomorrow is a new day filled with possibilities. Each day brings a fresh start and a chance to create a better, more fulfilling experience. Look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead and embrace the positive energy that a new day brings.

]]>The post Ditch Your New Years Resolutions and Make a More/Less List, Inspired by Illustrator Julia Rothman appeared first on LUX & LUSH.
]]>Invented by New York Times illustrator, Julia Rothman, the More/Less list is a more gentle and positive way to map out your vision of what you want your life to look like in the coming year.
It’s simple. Take a piece of paper, draw a line down the middle and write the two headings ‘More’ and ‘Less’. Then think hard about realistic ways you could improve your life. Your ‘More’ section can be things you’re already doing that you’d like to do even more!
You may want to draw little pictures of each item on the list to act as a visual reminder when you glance at your list. Stick it up somewhere you’ll see it regularly, like above your desk.
Traditional New Year’s Resolutions like ‘lose weight’ or ‘get fit’ are very easy to commit to but very hard to stick to.
The More/Less format, on the other hand, is a more holistic vision of your life with positive, simple and actionable points to work from. Instead of ‘get fit’, you can put ‘yoga’ and ‘walking’ in your More list.
It’s also more easy-going and flexible, with more space for you to work towards goals without the fear of failure!
