]]>Most of us reach for our phones as soon as we open our eyes. From then on, we are bombarded by emails, news alerts, and other notifications. So, before you enter the madness, take a minute to check in with yourself. Put your hands on your heart and listen to your inner voice.
They say that a cluttered space is a sign of a cluttered mind. Clean out both in a methodical way. We’re not saying to tackle it all at once—just three items a day. Keep a box or bag in an accessible location and drop in 3 things. When it is full, you can donate the contents.
So often we tell ourselves that we only deserve nice things if we have completed or accomplished something. No, you deserve to be kind and treat yourself. Allow yourself one small pleasure a day, whether it be coffee in bed, chatting with a friend, or listening to your favorite music.

]]>If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. The best way to grow as a human is by learning from others that are smarter than you. Seek out people with fascinating stories and life experiences, and listen rather than talk.
For six months, try to live as cheaply as you can. We’re talking scrambled eggs and ramen noodles, owning as little as possible, and living in a small space. The lesson in all this is, if there comes a point in the future when you have to take a risk, you will already know the worst-case scenario.

]]>The reason changing careers late in your life is scary is because the older you are, the less comfortable you feel starting something from scratch. You start to feel the stifling pressure of time, and depending on your various responsibilities (such as family obligations), you may feel like this is too big of a risk to take at this point in your life.
But as they say, “no risk, no reward.” Things might seem risky right now, but there’s a reason you’re thinking about doing this. Whether it’s related to interest, money, flexibility, or autonomy—there are benefits that can arise from taking this risk down the line. As NHL great Wayne Gretzky one said, “You miss all of the shots you don’t take.”
It’s also important to note that although it seems like you’re starting from scratch, you have a completely different mindset now. You can’t compare your rookie status for your new career to the way you were when you started your old one because you were a different person back then.
Be confident that you’ve grown since then and trust your judgment. If it seems like a promising idea and all signs are pointing towards it, it may be a good opportunity to try it out!
